We’ve already revealed the amazing Headline Events for the New Forest Food & Drink Festival. But there’s plenty more for locals to enjoy as the organisers proudly present the line-up of home-grown New Forest business putting on ‘Sensational Sides’ for our 15 foodie themes.

The Secret to a Perfect Pie will be revealed throughout the week on the menu of The Mortimer Arms, near Ower, as part of our Sizzling Steaks & Perfect Pies theme. Mortimer head chef Jake Henry will be showcasing his ‘perfect pies’, disclosing his best kept secrets and why you should choose certain accompaniments to enhance the flavours of your dish.

The Passford House Hotel near Lymington is holding A Shoot Dinner with a special game menu during the Festival Week as the Sensational Side in our Glorious Game & Roaring Fires theme. Guests will be greeted by the traditional ‘shoot’ drink of sloe gin served as a cocktail, and have a choice of three starters, three main courses, and three desserts from Monday October 31 to Friday November 4.

The Sensational side for our Sip & Savour celebration of all things drinkable is the Meet The Brewer event at The New Forest Inn near Lyndhurst. The team at Flack Manor Brewery will be bringing samples of their November seasonal beer and offering tastings of their three permanent cask ales, all brewed locally in Romsey. Learn about the ingredients and the grain-to-glass philosophy on Tuesday November 1 from 6pm-8.30pm.

The New Forest Forager’s Sensational Side takes place at The Royal Oak near Beaulieu with an All Things Forest menu from November 2-8. The Royal Oak will be presenting an array of sumptuous dishes using foraged ‘forest delights’ as well as locally sourced meat and cheese. Guests will also receive a booklet of unusual forest recipes and Forest Facts.

Pork lovers will want to check out The All Things Pig Sensational Side which celebrates Pannage pigs – the free-roaming porker that can be seen munching acorns throughout the forest during the autumn. From November 2-8 The Trusty Servant pub near Minstead will be showing an array of different ways to enjoy local pork, including advice on how to create the perfect pork belly dish and explaining the different cuts.

There’s plenty going on for the Sensational Side to the Very English Afternoon Tea theme. Rosie Lea tea house and bakery at Brockenhurst will be putting on a special afternoon tea and Walking Picnics are holding a two-hour guided walk on November 3 from 1pm, starting from Anderwood car park, followed by an afternoon tea picnic. The walk will take participants deep into the Forest to discover wildlife, birds and the trees which will be showing their best autumn colour. They’ll also be hosting the first Pop Up Cafe in the Education Centre at Blashford Lakes near Ringwood on Sunday November 6, from 10am-3.30pm, launching a series of cafe events which will be held throughout the winter at the nature reserve.

The sweet-of-tooth should look up the events planned for the Sweet Forest Somethings Sensational Side, by Daisybank Cottage boutique bed and breakfast near Brockenhurst. They’ll be holding three days of unique and special New Forest food and drink events from November 1-3, including presentations by their suppliers, including Miss Witt and Dancing Cows brewery.

And, finally, if fish is your thing, remember that Kitty’s Of Lyndhurst is doing home deliveries of fish all week as the Sensational Side to the Forest Fish & Fruits of our Sea theme.
